Malik Meraj Khalid (1996)

Malik Meraj Khalid served as the caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan for a brief period in 1996. He held office from July 18, 1996, to February 17, 1997, following the resignation of Benazir Bhutto.

Malik Meraj Khalid was a senior politician and a member of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). He was known for his long political career and his association with Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the founder of the PPP. Khalid had previously served as a member of Pakistan’s National Assembly and held various ministerial positions in the government.

During his time as caretaker Prime Minister, Khalid’s main responsibility was to oversee the administration until the general elections took place. His role was temporary and aimed at ensuring a smooth transition of power to the newly elected government.

It’s worth noting that Malik Meraj Khalid’s tenure as Prime Minister was relatively short, and he was not able to implement significant policy changes during that time. After the general elections in 1997, he returned to his role as a senior member of the PPP and continued to be involved in Pakistani politics until his death in 2003.
