COAS General Munir Calls for UN Action on Kashmir Peace.

In Islamabad, COAS General Asim Munir made a compelling call to the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute, aligning with Security Council Resolutions, as reported by ZRM News on Friday.

This impassioned appeal was articulated during a high-level gathering convened to assess preparations for the upcoming ministerial meeting of the United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping Mission. COAS Munir played a pivotal role as a special guest during the concluding session of this event.

This gathering, co-hosted by Pakistan and Japan, centered on the theme of ‘Safety and Security of Peacekeepers.’ It attracted delegates from diverse countries, senior UN officials, and members of the diplomatic community in Islamabad. In his address, the army chief lauded the United Nations for its indispensable role in upholding global peace. He emphasized the mounting challenges and unprecedented threats confronting Peacekeepers in their vital mission.

COAS Munir went on to underscore Pakistan’s vision of fostering a region characterized by peace, a place where trade, transit, and investment would flourish, benefiting all nations across South, West, and Central Asia.

Furthermore, he urged the United Nations to empower Peacekeeping Missions to effectively counter intricate threats while ensuring the safety and security of Peacekeepers on the ground.

In addition, COAS Munir appealed to the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General to seek a peaceful resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, aligning with Security Council Resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Earlier, the Under Secretary General for the Department of Peace Operations expressed gratitude to Pakistan for hosting the conference, acknowledging the country’s invaluable contributions to global peace.

Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani, addressing the attendees, underscored Pakistan’s enduring commitment to UN peacekeeping spanning over six decades. He regarded this commitment as a tangible testament to Pakistan’s role in preserving international peace and security.

Minister Jilani paid tribute to the courageous men and women who laid down their lives in the noble pursuit of peacekeeping, including 171 Pakistani individuals.

He emphasized the paramount importance of ensuring a safe and secure environment for UN peacekeepers who tirelessly dedicate themselves to upholding peace worldwide.
